Personality Theories Judith Blankenship HHS 310 The Helping Relationship Instructor: David Tredinnick May 14, 2011 Personality Theories The character theory I plan to implement in the help process is Erick Erickson theory of psychosocial stimulatement. Similar to Sigmund Feud, Erickson believe that the personality develop thru stages. But unlike Feud, Erickson believed social experiences have an impact on the personality and he describes this in his theory. Erickson is a Freudian swelled head psychologist. He accepted Freuds ideals. He was most storied for expanding Freuds theory of stages. Based on the epigenetic principle that says our personalities broadcast thru stages. Each stage can be either conquered as lucky or unsuccessful. The challenges the personality face in individually stage is considered a crises. There is certain natural assemble of personality development. If a part of the development were done untimely or out of order, this would cause stagnation or ulterior development problems. (Boeree, 2006) Erickson theory has eight stages. The first psychosocial stage is called oral sensory stage from birth to a year. Because an infant is totally dependent, it volition develop trust or mistrust base on the interaction the boor has with the p arnt or caregiver.
